Disadvantages of curved screens
1. Expensive price, get what you pay for
The price of curved screens is more expensive than flat screen TVs, especially OLED screens with curved screens. LED screens with curved screens only use processing techniques to reduce costs, which significantly reduces the price of curved screens, but the effect is naturally much better and worse.
OLED technology is not yet in a very mature stage, so the cost is relatively high; The use of LED panels for curved surfaces on the market requires a process to heat and bend the LED panels through a "hard bending" process. This is also why LED panel curved TVs are relatively thick, too thin and not easy to bend. Whether it is the cost of OLED curved panels or the cost of LED surface bending, it is destined that the price of curved TVs will be difficult to reduce, especially in the past year when panel prices have been rising.
And hesitating about the immaturity of technology, the yield rate of curved panels is not high, and the cost of curved panels of the same specifications is about 30% higher than that of ordinary flat LED panels. Bending the LED panel is not that simple, and special treatment is also required for the backlight material, bending points, etc., which naturally makes it difficult to reduce costs.
Therefore, if you see very cheap curved TVs on the market, you still need to be cautious and evaluate them more.
2. The optimal viewing distance requirement is strict, and the screen needs to be large enough
Curved screens have certain requirements for viewing distance. If the distance is too far, the curved surface looks like a plane and requires a closer viewing distance to have a sense of presence. Otherwise, the plane will be almost flat.
The best way to experience an immersive viewing experience is when the eyes can just see the entire screen at a distance.
Researchers have tested different screens with curved radii ranging from 3000mm to 6000mm, and the results show that for a viewing distance of 3.5-4 meters, the best effect is achieved with a curved radius of 4200mm. If the radius is greater than 4200mm, the curved effect will be weakened, while if the radius is less than 4200mm, it will cause image distortion.
